This project involved a multi-million dollar renovation and conversion of a large office building into s hotel. Englander Knabe & Allen was retained to assist the client in obtaining all the necessary permits required by the City of Los Angeles Department of Building and Safety. During the process of handling the submittals and paperwork, our client was informed by the City that a $2 million dollar fire system was necessary.
Due to our understanding of the building code, permit fees and project requirements specific to the City of Los Angeles, we were able to work with the building and fire departments and win our client approval for alternative smoke seal /life safety, which fulfilled the intent of the fire life/safety code.
The alternative fire safety system that we proposed was approved by the City and resulted in a real savings of $2 million dollars for our client. We were able to save our client money, meet the code requirements all without delaying the project.
