Former Los Angeles Unified School District board member David Tokofsky has joined Englander Knabe & Allen (EKA) to help grow the firm’s education practice. A graduate Cum Laude of UC Berkeley with dual degrees in Spanish and United States History (honors) Tokofsky taught 12 years at John Marshall High School in LAUSD where he led the first district school to a National Championship in the Academic Decathlon. Tokofsky was selected as California’s Teacher of the Year in the US Department of Education’s Christa McAuliffe Fellowship.

After teaching Advanced Placement courses and coaching soccer and other after school clubs, Tokofsky was elected three times to the Los Angeles School Board Tokofsky represented the eastside of San Fernando Valley, East Los Angeles and the Southeast Cities for 12 years. While on the school board, Tokofsky championed kindergarten to be a full day for all students in Los Angeles. He helped four school bonds to success and authored the first Independent Citizen’s Oversight Committee of bond funds as well as the creation of an Office of Inspector General at LAUSD. During his tenure scores of new schools were built across the County of Los Angeles.

Recently Tokofsky has been a strategist for the businesses, non-profits, charter schools in the curriculum, technology, special education, food service, government relations, accounting, planning and policy and union arenas. He is familiar with school districts, charter schools, and independent schools both locally and across the state and nation having served on the California School Boards’ Board of Directors and the National School Board Steering Committee for the Council of Urban Boards of Education. Tokofsky has won Stanford University’s prestigious Coe Fellowship for teaching US History, the American Council of Young Political Leaders Fellowship to meet Mexico City’s Cuahtemoc Cardenas, a Fulbright-Hayes Fellowship to Central America and Mexico, three National Endowment of Humanities study Fellowships while teaching and UC Berkeley’s Clio Fellowship on the US Constitution. He worked as a consultant for the College Board and has taught Political Science at the University of Southern California.
