Englander Knabe & Allen (EKA), the largest independent public relations agency based in Los Angeles, has hired transportation expert Jaime de la Vega as a Senior Vice President to lead its growing transportation and infrastructure practice
Harvey Englander, Managing Partner for EKA, said, “Jaime brings a unique mix of experiences and success in the transportation sector that will serve our current and future clients exceptionally well. He brings over two decades of senior level experience working in and for the public sector on all aspects of transportation, including high profile and controversial procurements. He has successfully balanced all aspects of the decision making process including technical, operational, management, financial, legislative, communications, and political factors.”
“My experience in local government decision making will ensure that I am able to guide clients through the complex legislative and administrative environments of city, county and regional agencies. My career has focused upon developing and implementing viable solutions for regional transportation problems in Southern California,” said de la Vega.
Prior to joining EKA, de la Vega held a number of senior level transportation positions in local government, including: General Manager of the Los Angeles Department of Transportation (LADOT); Deputy Mayor for Transportation at the City of Los Angeles; Director of the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro/MTA) Board of Directors; and Director at the Southern California Regional Rail Authority (Metrolink) Board of Directors. He has led and managed an operating department with an annual budget of $450 million and has served as the chief advisor, strategist, and implementer for Los Angeles Mayors Antonio Villaraigosa (surface transportation and aviation) and Mayor Richard Riordan (surface transportation).
De la Vega has helped shape local, state, and national transportation policy, including: Measure R (2008), a new voter-approved transportation sales tax in Los Angeles County; the addition of transit and signal synchronization funding in California’s Proposition 1B (2006); and the America Fast Forward legislation approved by Congress (2013) that dramatically expanded a federal loan program for transportation infrastructure.
In addition, de la Vega was budget director for Los Angeles City Attorney Rocky Delgadillo; was a policy advisor for Riordan’s California gubernatorial campaign; and worked as a consultant providing strategic and policy advice to various public sector clients. De la Vega has a Bachelor of Arts, Urban Studies, summa cum laude from California State University, Northridge and a Master of Arts, Urban Planning from University of California, Los Angeles.
